"Called to Serve...." There is no call greater than to serve the Lord. To assist you in accomplishing the work with a minimum of illness during your service! Contact us in Mesa, Arizona for an appointment for your immunizations as soon as you decide to go - or as soon as you receive your calling. Hepatitis A and B and other immunizations may be required in a series that should be completed prior to your departure for missionary training. We do offer the Twinrix Accelerated Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B immunization recommended by the Centers For Disease Control and most church mission offices. This vaccination series is completed in 21 days and requires three office visits, one on day 1, the second on day 7 and the 3rd on day 21. A booster of Twinrix is recommended after you return from service to provide lifelong immunity. Immunization for meningococcal meningitis is now recommended for those entering the MTC. We carry the meningitis vaccine, Menactra® Meningitis is a fatal disease that is transmitted person to person, especially for those in close quarters. A one-time injectable Polio booster is recommended for all adult foreign destination travelers if they had not received polio vaccine since 1988. Tetanus Td or Tdap vaccination is required if you have not had a shot within five years of the date you anticipate returning home (to minimize medical expenses if you are injured during your service). It is also required that you have completed two MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) and Varicella (chickenpox - if you have not had the disease) immunizations - unless you were born prior to 1958, in which case you are considered immune to those diseases by virtue of exposure. If there is any doubt as to your immunity or susceptibility a blood test is recommended to make that determination. And finally, due to the increased exposure and close confinement of travel, missionaries traveling in the winter months should receive a Flu shot (whether or not you have ever had the flu). The MTC in Provo, UT, does encourage immunization against flu for those missionaries who will be entering during the winter months. Pneumonia immunizations are also recommended for those senior missionaries. |
