Vaccinations for Adults We provide all immunizations that are required or recommended for adults; whether you are entering a program that requires immunizations, traveling, need vaccines for work, or just want to be current on your vaccinations. We now carry the adult Tdap - Adacel® - Tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis. Due to recurrent outbreaks of pertussis "whooping cough", it is recommended that all adults 18-64 receive this immunization. Vaccinations for Adult Students Immunizations are required for various programs in colleges or other health field training programs. Each school will usually provide you with a list of required immunizations or ask you for “proof” that you are immune to certain diseases. You can provide this by either completing the immunizations; or if you have had the shots or disease in the past, do a blood test called a “titer” which will prove that you are immune. Some of the immunizations that may be required are: MMR – Measles, Mumps and Rubella Hepatitis B – a series of 3 shots over a period of 6 months. Tetanus/Diphtheria (Td) – no more than 10 years old Tdap (Tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis) - now available for adults. Recommended instead of the traditional Td due to outbreaks of "whooping cough". Varicella (chicken pox) – if you had the disease, ask for a varicella titer to prove immunity. If you have not had chicken pox, or your titer is negative, you need to have two shots, 3 months apart. TB test - usually required every 6-12 months. At your appointment, you will have a small injection placed in your left forearm. You need to return 48 to 72 hours later to have this looked at or “read”. The results will be given to you at that time. If you need an MMR, you should do it the same time as your TB, or space them out by 30 days. Titers can be done for hepatitis B, varicella and MMR. Depending upon your line of work, immunizations may be required or recommended. Employees of school districts may be asked to have an MMR (measles, mumps, rubella). Day care workers or owners will need to have an MMR and a TB skin test. Those working in the health care industry should also have the hepatitis B series. We even provide Rabies immunizations for wildlife workers or those involved with wile animal care. Everyone should make sure their Tdap is up to date. |
